Project DATA COMMUNICATION AND NETWORKING BITS 1313 SEMESTER 2 SESSION 2020/2021 PROJECT SCENARIO Video Presentation Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7Ab511vER4   1.0         Project Scenario The scenario of this project can be referred to Figure 1. Figure 1 shows the logical network flow from a home network to OUM facilities. In this figure, an OUM’s student is trying to access the Online Learning system located in the OUM network facilities. The student is using her modem to connect to the public network before able to connect to the OUM facilities. From the OUM network, the data then was forwarded to IT Centre where the Online Learning System server is located.

2.1           Project Report For this project, each team is expected to produce writing related to the project scenario. From the scenario, you are expecting to produce a report on three major sections which are: OSI Layer Model In this section, you are expecting to explain how the data travels from the student’s computer to reach the Online Learning System server which is in the OUM IT Centre. The explanation should be related the OSI Layer Model. Explain the possible network components involves throughout the communications. Illustrate the diagram to support your explanation.   Figure 1.0 : OSI MODEL   The open systems interconnection (OSI) model is a conceptual model created by the International Organization for Standardization which enables diverse communication systems to communicate using standard protocols. It is a 7 layer architecture with each layer having specific functionality to perform. All these 7 layers work col...

QUESTION 2

Referring back to the scenario, our group produce that the network would have several departments. The department based on the list below:  1)       Information Technology Department 2)       Business and Management Department 3)       Engineering Department 4)       IT Centre based on all 4 departments above, we need 4 subnets to be used in the network. So, to calculate the subnetting we can use the fixed-length subnet mask (FLSM). An FLSM is a sequence of numbers of unchanging length that streamlines packet routing within the subnets. A subnet can be a defined local area network (LAN).   Subnet Calculation (FLSM):   We chose a class B IP address because Class B IP addresses are used for medium and large-sized networks in enterprises and organizations. They support up to 65,000 hosts on 16,000 individual networks. Let that the LAN use the IP-address start ...
